Franklin softball outlasts Ole Brook 3-2

The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs softball team hosted the Brookhaven High School Lady Panthers on the diamond Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs rallied in the sixth inning to outlast the Lady Panthers by a final score of 3-2.

Despite getting one runner on in the first, the Lady Panthers were unable to bring the run in. The Lady Bulldogs were able to get the timely fly balls and ground outs to strand the runner. Franklin County scored first in the bottom half of the first off an RBI single before the Lady Panthers could record the final out.

Brookhaven tied the game up 1-1 in the second with an RBI single from Sharquita Cook. They took the lead in the third off of a RBI sacrifice by Rileigh Allen. The Lady Bulldogs tried to tie the game in the third, as they had two runners on bases with two outs. But the Lady Panthers were able to strand the runners, getting a much-needed fly ball.

The Lady Bulldogs’ defense kept the Lady Panthers off-balance as they were able to produce fly balls and ground outs for much of the game. The Lady Bulldogs rallied in the sixth inning, scoring two runs. With two outs, the Lady Bulldogs scored on a RBI double, and later scored on a RBI single, outlasting the Lady Panthers to win the game 3-2.

“Franklin County wanted the win more than we did. We have to be more consistent at the plate because two runs will not win a softball game.” Lady Panthers doach Mandy Vinson said.

Kat Wallace finished the game with a Triple. Rileigh Allen had a single and RBI. Jadeyn Fuller and Meg Foster each had a single. Cook finished the game with two singles and an RBI.
