Brookhaven man killed in log truck crash
A Brookhaven truck driver was killed earlier today when his log truck collided with a pine tree along Hwy. 84.
Christopher Shawn Smith, 25, was taken to Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadeville, where he was pronounced dead, Franklin County Coroner Percy Peeler said.
Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Smith, a driver for C&G Timber Co., was traveling east on Hwy. 84 just west of Fire Tower Road about 7:10 a.m. He said Smith’s 2015 Western tractor trailer, loaded with logs, ran off the right side of the road. The trailer came into contact with a pine tree, which caused the cab of the truck to detach and roll over, he said.
The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
