Rate increases are on the way for Five County Community Transportation.

On Nov. 27, fare rates will increase an additional $5 for individuals who use the public transportation system.

“Right now we charge $5 to take people where they need to go in the service area,” said Robert Hall, operations supervisor. “We’re going to increase the rate to $10.”

For any additional stops, it will cost riders an extra $1.

“We base our rate on our competitors and other companies and ours is so low right now,” said Hall.

Five County Community Transportation serves the general public, elderly and disabled individuals in Jefferson Davis, Covington, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marion, Pike and Lamar counties.

Services are provided Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Transportation services include medical trips, employment, school activities and dialysis treatment centers.

“We will pick people up from anywhere. It can be your home, train depot, or at work,” Hall said. “We have our regulars and new people that sign up. We provide for the public.”

On average, Hall said they pick up 50 to 60 people a week.

Individuals interested in riding with Five County must schedule an appointment 24 hours in advance.
