There is an end in sight.

Shoulder work is currently underway in both directions on Hwy. 550 between Hwy. 51 and Bouie Mill Road, said Michael Flood with MDOT.

Work crews are on the job from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. which means that the highway is down to one lane at various sections while construction is happening.

That can be frustrating for drivers in a rush to get children to school and themselves to work.

Weather permitting, crews anticipate finishing the work this week, then they’ll start striping, he said. However, the National Weather service is predicting sunny skies today but a 40 percent chance of rain Friday.

“Motorists should be alert for roadside workers, anticipate alternating lane closures and expect temporary minor delays as the work is completed,” Flood said.
