Jayess woman killed in two-vehicle crash

A Lawrence County woman died in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 44 early Sunday, authorities said.

Linda Thornhill, 71, of Jayess, was killed when her SUV crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle, said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 8:39 a.m. on Hwy. 44 near Dewitt Alexander Road in Jayess.

Jonathon Morrow, 26, of Ovette was traveling west on Hwy. 44 in a 2008 Chevrolet SK3. Thornhill was traveling east on the highway in a 2014 Toyota CBA.

Thornhill’s vehicle crossed over the center line coming into contact with the driver’s side of Morrow’s truck, Fortenberry said. The woman was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Morrow was not injured in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
