Unofficial poll results show that the majority of voters — 53.5 percent — are in favor of the legal sale of liquor in Monticello.
Town Clerk Deborah Lea said poll results show 157 people voted for the sale of liquor while 84 voted against it. The election was held at the Lawrence County Civic Center Tuesday.
Passing the referendum means that liquor and wine can be sold within the city limits. That also means that liquor stores will be allowed to open in the town.
Beer and light wine are already allowed in the county.
