Tornado confirmed in Mississippi; some damage reported

TYLERTOWN (AP) — The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down in southern Mississippi.

A mobile home was damaged and moved about 3 feet off its foundation while a storage shed was overturned and destroyed. No one was injured.

A survey shows a twister with top winds of 77 mph struck north of the Salem community in Walthall County at 6:39 a.m. Wednesday. The tornado, rated EF-0 on the enhanced Fujita scale, traveled for 200 yards. The path was about 50 yards wide.

Weather Service forecaster Robert Ricks says the storm was part of a line of thunderstorms along a frontal boundary pushing southeast through Mississippi and Louisiana.

Some tree branches were snapped about 2.5 miles away at the same time.
