A Brookhaven man died on the scene of a head-on collision early Thursday on California Road in Lincoln County west of Brookhaven.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris identified the victim as 66-year-old Thomas E. Williams.

Sheriff Steve Rushing said the collision occurred on California Road at Mystery Lane about 5:30 a.m.

The other driver, Greg Rowells, 56, of Brookhaven, was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Rushing said Williams was driving northwest on California Road in a 1999 Ford Taurus and Rowells was driving a 2002 Mazda truck southeast on California.

He said it appears the two vehicles collided head-on in the middle of the road near Mystery Lane.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
