NATCHEZ (AP) — A Mississippi city has repossessed an auditorium after the church leasing it reportedly skipped years of rent payments.

The Natchez Democrat reports the agreement between the City of Natchez and the ChristLife Church started in 2013 and the repossession began in late January.

City Clerk Megan Edmonds says the agreement required the church to pay $1,500 a month, but it hasn’t paid for “several years.” The church says renovations and repairs it made to the auditorium should count toward the rent.

Edmonds says the church submitted invoices for $70,000, but $50,000 of what the church claims as valid payments is considered questionable, such as the purchase of radio and audio equipment. The city will decide which payments to honor. City Attorney Bob Latham says legal action may be taken.
