Co-Lin softball falls 5-4 to GCCC — First game of double header is heartbreaker

Wednesday’s first game against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was a heartbreaker for the Wolves Varsity, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. The game was tied at three with the Lady Bulldogs batting in the top of the sixth when Gulf Coast plated two to take the lead.

Gulf Coast took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third with an RBI single followed by a two-run homer, but Co-Lin drove in three in the bottom half of the frame. Morgan Dubose reached base on an error, and Alex Anthony reached on a single. Paige Hulin ripped a line drive to the left for an RBI triple. Makenzie Smith followed with a sac fly that scored Hulin.

The Lady Bulldogs scored two in the top of the sixth, and the Lady Wolves plated one in the bottom of the sixth after an error scored Hulin. Co-Lin was unable to push anymore across.

Sydney Davis earned the win for Gulf Coast. She went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Bailey Root took the loss for Co-Lin. She allowed eight hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out eight.

Hulin went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Wolves in hits.

Britney Triplett led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits in two at bats.
