White House officials planned to meet Wednesday with newly-appointed Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, according to the Washington Post.

Hyde-Smith received a less than warm welcome from the White House when Gov. Phil Bryant appointed her last week to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Thad Cochran.

Three people familiar with the planned talks said athat the officials would include White House political director Bill Stepien, but not President Donald Trump. The people describing the talks spoke on the condition of anonymity, according to the Washington Post.
