Brookhaven Academy alumnus Corey Dickerson is scheduled to start left field for the Pittsburgh Pirates today in the team’s home opener against Detroit.

Thursday’s game was postponed to Friday due to weather conditions.

Dickerson was traded from the Rays to the Pirates in February in exchange for a couple players and cash. Dickerson was solid last season for the Rays with a .282 average and 27 homers. He was named an All-Star last season.

Dickerson played in 93 games in left field and 55 at designated hitter for the Rays last season, according to mlb.com.

“There’s room for improvement, and there’s also a guy out there that wants to improve. I love the competitor, I love the edge,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said after Dickerson’s spring training debut.
