Rolling into softball playoffs

With the regular season coming to the end, softball playoffs are approaching. Brookhaven, Wesson, Lawrence County and Enterprise all won their regions and will be awarded byes in the first rounds of the playoffs.

Loyd Star will be the two seed from region seven and Bogue Chitto will be the three seed in region seven, and both will compete in the first round of the playoffs.

The Lady Bobcats will take on the loser of the Mize vs. Puckett game tonight in the first round of the playoffs, as the contest serves as a de-facto region championship for the two teams.

Bogue Chitto comes into Friday’s action with an 11-7 record, and captured the number three seed in the playoffs via their two victories over West Lincoln.

Loyd Star

The Lady Hornets will have the homefield advantage in their first-round matchup with Pisgah, as they have the higher seed.

Loyd Star came into Friday’s action with a 9-8 overall record, and finished second in the district with a 4-2 conference record.

Brookhaven

The Lady Panthers come into the weekend with a 16-3 mark and having already clinched the district championship and a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Brookhaven will take on the winner of the Stone vs. Wayne County first-round series in the second round. Brookhaven will have home-field advantage.

Lawrence County

The Lady Cougars swept through district play as they were able to claim the district championship letting them skip the first round of playoff action.

Lawrence County will take on the winner of Northeast and Pass Christian in the second round of the playoffs.

Lawrence County is 20-0-1 entering the weekend.

Wessson

The playoff matchup tied to Wesson’s second-round matchup isn’t set yet, as Region 8 isn’t finished with district play. It could be either West Marion or Columbia in the matchup, taking on Southeast Lauderdale County High School.

Wesson enters weekend play with 15-5 record and a 5-0 district record.

Enterprise

The Lady Yellow Jackets will take on the winner of the Enterprise-Clarke and East Marion first-round series in the second-round of playoffs.

Enterprise comes into the weekend with a 11-4 record and a perfect 6-0 district record.
