Lady Bobcats, Hornets look strong for first round of softball playoffs

Bogue Chitto vs. Puckett
Coming off their 1A state championship in 2016, the Lady Bobcats qualified for the playoffs in 2A in 2018 even with the bump up in classification.
Bogue Chitto went 12-8 on the season, and they got into the playoffs by virtue of two two-run wins over West Lincoln to finish third in the district.
The Lady Bobcats will host Puckett Friday night in the first round of the playoffs, and they will then travel to Puckett on Saturday for game two, and if necessary, a game three of the playoffs.
Bogue Chitto has won 10 consecutive first round playoffs games, with their last first round loss coming to Nanih Waiya six years ago.
The Lady Bobcats are led in hitting by Codi Legget. Legget is hitting .508 on the season with a 1.309 OPS and two homeruns.
Juliana Frazier is hitting .328 on the season with a .492 slugging percentage, and Alyssa Leggett is hitting .391 with a .444 on-base percentage.
The Lady Bobcats are led on the mound by Codi Leggett who has a 1.67 ERA oer 108.2 innings with 105 strikeouts and one no-hitter.
Puckett is 7-8 on the year, but they went 6-2 in district play. They lost to Mize last week in what was a de-facto district title game. Puckett has outscored their district opponents by 45 runs, and they’ve made the playoffs six consecutive seasons.
Loyd Star vs. Pisgah
Loyd Star will travel to Pisgah Friday night in the first round of the playoffs, before returning home for game two on Saturday, and if necessary a game three immediately to follow.
The Lady Hornets and Pisgah have met the two previous years in the playoffs with the Hornets winning both matchups to end Pisgah’s season.
The Lady Hornets finished second in the district by going 4-0 over West Lincoln and Bogue Chitto.
Loyd Star has won a playoff series each of the last five seasons, and they’ve not given up a run in the first round of the playoffs over the last two seasons.
The Lady Hornets are led in hitting by Marley Poole who is hitting .488 on the year with a .674 slugging percentage.
Meagan Poole is hitting .400 on the year with a .488 slugging percentage.
The Lady Hornets are led on the mound by Aly Floyd. Floyd has a 3.64 ERA over 67.1 innings, and she’s only walked 28 hitters in that time.
Pisgah comes into the playoff series with a 8-9 record on the year and a 3-3 mark in district play.
Pisgah is led at the plate by Gabby Fortenberry who has a .500 batting average and a 1.184 OPS. Camile Russell is hitting .476 on the year with a .595 slugging percentage.
