James Allen Woodson Heard, of Brookhaven, died Thursday, June 21, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Heard, 71, was born Sept. 28, 1946, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Missouri law school before beginning his profession as an attorney. He was a former member of the Exchange Club and the Lincoln County Republican Executive Committee. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David Woodson Heard and Gunalean Crowley Heard; brother, Pete Snellgrove; sisters, Virginia Heard, Bonnie Morgan, Ollie Cox and Mary Ruth Benton.

Survivors are his son, Steven Allen Heard and wife, Ruthie; daughter, Sandie Smith and husband, Cary; brother, Ray Heard; five grandchildren, Graci Malone, Christopher Heard, Allie Heard, Faith Heard, and Emma Heard; lifelong friends, Horace and Jeanette Gray; and his beloved dog, Marley.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven is in charge of arrangements.
