Husband, wife dead after murder-suicide in Smith County
RALEIGH, Miss. (AP) — A husband and wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Smith County.
Sheriff Charlie Crumpton tells WLBT-TV the husband called police around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. When deputies arrived, they found the couple dead.
Crumpton says investigators believe 63-year-old Wayne Garner shot and killed his wife, 55-year-old Trudy Garner, before taking his own life. A shotgun was recovered from the scene.
The incident happened at their home on Highway 37, five miles north of Taylorsville.
The couple had been married for 20 years.
There were no other injuries reported. Crumpton says police have not had incidence calls to the home before this.
Authorities said they still don’t know what sparked the incident.
