NEW AUGUSTA, Miss. (AP) — Officials say a 12-year-old boy had an asthma attack at a Mississippi middle school and died.

Perry County School District Superintendent Gregory Dearman tells WDAM-TV that the sixth-grader died Wednesday. Dearman says the boy had an asthma attack in the gym at Perry Central Middle School.

Authorities have not released the boy’s identity, though County Coroner Heather Meeler has said he was 12 years old.

The circumstances surrounding the boy’s asthma attack are unclear.
