Sylva-Bay punts Cougars, 40-7

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars could not find the footing to overcome the Sylva-Bay Saints in Friday’s annual Pink Game, as the Saints made easy work of the Cougars by crushing the home team 40-7.

It was clear from the opening kickoff that it was going to be pretty one sided as the Saints established themselves great field position and thrashed the BA defense with an outside running game and a dominating screen pass offense, easily gaining eight to nine yards per play.

Even with five BA defenders rushing the ball on each play the Saints offense still managed to tear through them and maintain control of the game.

“We just couldn’t find a rhythm tonight” said senior quarterback Dawson Flowers. “We weren’t blocking and weren’t focusing on fundamentals, so they beat us fair and square.”

Sylva-Bay led 14-7 at halftime and going into the locker-room the Cougars were looking for some sort of motivation and inspiration to come back in the second half.

Unfortunately, none was found as fundamental mistakes and special team touchdowns led to an even more dominating performance from the Sylva Bay Saints as they scored 26 unanswered points in the second half.
