Wesson (3-1) is hunting a fourth straight win when they finish non-region play Friday night with a trip to Mize. The once-mighty Mize Bulldogs (1-4) have a young team this season, but Wesson head coach Jeremy Loy is fighting through some adversity to keep his team focused.
“We’ve been battling the stomach bug this week in addition to the heat, but our guys have got to know that nobody is going to feel sorry for them,” said Loy. “Mize is physical up front and will be a challenge.”
Mize is coming off a 39-8 loss to St. Andrews. Last Friday Wesson capped their homecoming week with a 47-14 win over Richland.
In the win over Richland Wesson sophomore quarterback Antrelle Sims has his biggest game of the season as a rusher. The 5-foot-11 quarterback carried the ball 12 times for 149 yards and one touchdown.
Senior linebacker Chamar Martin leads the Cobras with 55 tackles this season and junior linebacker Scott Hutt is second on the team with 51 stops.
Kickoff in Smith County is set for 7 p.m.
