Funeral services for Ruth S. Owens, of Brookhaven, are Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church in Brookhaven with burial at

New Prospect Cemetery. Bro. Willie Welch will officiate the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be today, Oct. 27, 2018, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, from 2 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Mrs. Owens, 84, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at Diversicare of Brookhaven with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 17, 1934, to Ernest Van Smith and Lillie Ford Smith. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She also loved her music and blessed much of Lincoln County with it. She was an active member of New Prospect Baptist Church and loved her church family very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 40 years, Thomas A. Oliver; husband in her later years, Thad O. Owens Sr.; daughter, Ramona Oliver; sisters, Edith Smith, Audrey Nessing, Lucy Smith, Eugenia Robbins, Willene Smith; brother, Donald Smith; and stepson, Charles Owens.

Survivors are her son, Jason Oliver and wife, Sarah; daughter, Carrene Scafidel and husband, Blake; grandchildren, Abby and Joshua Oliver, Jason, Emily, Adrian, Micah and Avery Scafidel; also the children and grandchildren of Thad Owens Sr.; and a host of other family and friends.
