Lady Bobcats sign letters with Co-Lin

Bogue Chitto senior softball player Karly Leake signed a letter of intent with Copiah-Lincoln Community College in a ceremony on Nov. 1 in the school library. Leake is a versatile athlete that can help Co-Lin in a variety of positions next season. She’s spent a majority of her career at second base before transitioning to shortstop last season. In slow-pitch Leake also played in the outfield. As a junior Leake hit .338 for the Lady Bobcats and tied for the team lead with 20 runs scored in 80 at bats. As a sophomore she batted .390 for the MHSAA 1A state champion Lady Bobcats.

Bogue Chitto senior softball player Baileigh Jackson also signed a letter of intent with Co-Lin Nov. 1.  Jackson is a catcher that posses a strong arm and the physical mindset needed to play the position at the next level. As a junior Jackson batted .315 with five doubles and a triple last season. As a sophomore she hit .400 with 19 RBIs for the 2017 MHSAA 1A state champion Lady Bobcats.

Speaking of Leake and Jackson, new Co-Lin softball coach Meleah Howard knows exactly what she is getting. As a Bogue Chitto alum, Howards has watched the duo grow up on and off the field.

“I’m looking forward to coaching Karly and Baileigh,” said Howard. “I’ve been watching them play since they were in 7th grade. They play hard and like to win and that’s the type of players I want to bring in to help our program to be successful.”
