Fourteen Lawrence County churches of several denominations share a common interest when it comes to Christmas — it’s all about the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ.

This is the sixth year the churches have come together to present “Life of Christ,” a drive-through nativity at Atwood Water Park. This season’s performance is Dec. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m.

It takes about 20 minutes to drive past the 11 scenes, said committee chairwoman Jane Boyd of Divide Methodist Protestant Church.

When motorists arrive, they’re given a CD that will guide them through each scene with a scripture and information. They’ll even provide a portable player for those without a CD player in their vehicle, she said.

The scenes take motorists from Mary and Joseph’s trip to Bethlehem to Christ’s resurrection.

Boyd said the committee was adamant from the beginning the annual event show Jesus’ entire life, not just the manger scene.

“That’s the way we wanted it,” she said. “It didn’t just end with a birth. We wanted to show the entire life of Christ, not just the birth.”

Boyd said donations are welcome and can be given to either the hosts at the beginning of the “journey” or to the Gideons at the completion. They’ll be collecting CDs and giving away New Testament Bibles, she said.
