COLUMBUS (AP) — A shooting at a Mississippi university wounded one person and prompted a two-hour campus lockdown.

Mississippi University for Women spokeswoman Anika Perkins says the shooting happened about 1 p.m. Friday outside a hall on the Columbus-based campus.

She says a man was taken to a hospital. The nature of his injuries was unclear.

Employees were working, but classes at the 2,800-student university aren’t scheduled to resume until Jan. 15. Sheriff’s deputies and police from Columbus and the university went building to building looking for the suspect.

Perkins says the suspect is still at large. He’s been described as a white man wearing blue jeans and an orange hoodie.
The university posted an update on Twitter saying the lockdown had been lifted because “there is no immediate threat to campus.”
