The driver of an 18-wheeler hauling air-conditioner parts apparently lost control of the rig and took out a few trees on the west side of I-55 Sunday.

Jeffrey Ryder of Southaven was driving southbound on I-55 about 5:23 p.m. when the Penske 2017 Freightliner veered off the road on the right and crashed into the trees near the 31 mile marker in Lincoln County, said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Traffic was backed up in the southbound lane for about six miles when it started to move slowly past the crash.

Fortenberry said Ryder was flown to a hospital, but did not know which one. His condition was not available Monday.
