Berean Children’s Home, a non-profit residential children’s facility, is having a fundraising auction Saturday at its facility in Bogue Chitto.
The annual auction helps provide necessities and extras for the children housed there. The auction will be at 1 p.m. at 1180 Berea Trial SE.
If it rains, the auction will be moved indoors.
Wendell Davis, who has been with Berean since it began in Louisiana in 1979, said the auction will feature two rifles — a Henry and a Weatherby, several outdoor recreation items like grills, household appliances, tools, decorative items and furniture.
“We have quite a variety of items, real nice things,” he said. “This will be our ninth year to have it here.”
Barbecue sandwiches, chips and drinks will also be available for sale. Berean children use the proceeds from food sales as spending money when they take a trip to the coast this summer.
Berean children are placed in the home through referrals from the state or sometimes privately placed because of problems in a family. The home currently has 12 children, but can take as many as 16.
“If you know of a child that needs help, if we feel like we can help them, we will,” Davis said. “We have devotions. They all go to church together on Sundays.”
Davis said he was grateful for the community’s help since moving the non-profit to Brookhaven nine years ago.
“The community and civic organizations, churches, have given us so much assistance and provided for us,” Davis said.
Berean is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible. The home is supported by contributions from individuals, churches, civic organizations, foundations and businesses.
