The local branch of the NAACP will honor its “Mother Queen of the Year” at a program Saturday.
The annual event will be at 6 p.m. at The Serenity House, 511 North Church St., Brookhaven.
“This is the biggest fundraiser of the year and we hope to have 50-100 people to attend,” Bernetta Character, president of the chapter, said. “With it being close to Mother’s Day this is a great opportunity to celebrate mothers everywhere and help raise some money for a very good cause.”
Advance tickets are $15 or $20 at the door. Children’s tickets are $10 at the door only.
Character said the mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of everyone, and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
For more information or to buy tickets, contact Brenda Pittman at 601-833-8954, Gwen Smith at 601-320-0263 or Character at 601-757-8094.
