The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is inviting residents who are 56 and older to come for a party Thursday.

The 16th annual Lawrence County Triad’s Senior Citizen Day is open to anyone who has hit their 56th birthday and is a Lawrence County resident.

It’s fun, food and entertainment from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Lawrence County Multipurpose Building. The front office of the sheriff’s office will be closed until 2 p.m.

“The major purpose of Triad is to develop, expand and implement crime prevention and education programs for senior citizens,” said Lawrence County Sheriff Lessie Butler. “Triad works to improve the quality of life for elderly people, and it provides an opportunity for the exchange of information between law enforcement and older people, which reduces the fear of crime.”

About 500 people attended the event last year.

Besides free food, there will be prize giveaways and fun activities, he said.
