(AP) — Investigators say an 11-year-old central Mississippi girl has died after a gunshot wound to the face.

Jackson police tell local news outlets they believe Asia Turner found an unsecured gun and accidentally shot herself Sunday.

A parent, who was in another part of the house, found the girl moments after the gun fired. Police didn’t say what kind of gun was involved or where the girl found it.

Turner was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Authorities questioned the parent, but no charges have been filed.
