2 Sunday wrecks end with fatalities
A Monticello woman was killed in a fatal crash in Walthall County Sunday, authorities said.
Julie M. Williams, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Hwy. 27 just south of Evergreen Road, said Trooper Craig James with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
James said Williams was traveling north on Hwy. 27 in a gray 2015 Jeep Cherokee about 5:50 a.m. He said it appears the Jeep left the roadway off the left side and overturned, ejecting the driver.
The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
Craig said earlier Sunday, Gary L. Cotton Jr., 32, of Magnolia, was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal crash in Pike County.
He said Cotton was driving a gold 2007 Cadillac Escalade north on Hwy. 51 about 3:25 a.m. when it left the roadway and collided with a tree off the left shoulder of the road.
The vehicle had five other passengers, three of whom were transported to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical center in McComb for moderate to severe injuries, James said.
That crash also remains under investigation by MHP.
