Funeral services for Rev. Herbert A. Savell Jr. will be on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in the Ruth Cemetery. Bro. Nick Hodges will be officiating the services. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m.

Rev. Savell, 94, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born on Nov. 15, 1924, in Anguilla, Mississippi, to Herbert Savell Sr. and Nettie Fleming Savell. He served in the Pacific Campaign in the Navy in WWII and as an instructor during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Union Hall Baptist Church; worked for many years as an educator and interim pastor; and enjoyed woodworking, small engine repair and teaching Sunday School. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 60 years, Sue Brown Savell; his grandchild, Michelle Weeks; his great-grandchild, Eli Robbins; and his siblings, Carmen, Olin, Vernon, Hillen, Sally and Carl.

Survivors are his children, Sherran Miller and husband Bobby, Steve Savell and wife Maggie; six grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold Savell and wife Willie Ruth; and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Rev. Savell’s name to Union Hall Baptist Church.
