Mavern B. Griffin

Mr. Mavern B. Griffin, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at the age of 82. Mr. Griffin was retired after a 42 year career as a papermaker, working for St. Regis and Georgia Pacific. He was born in Altha, Georgia, the son of the late Bill Griffin and Velma L. (Hall) Tyre. He lived in Jacksonville for the past 18 years with his loving partner Roselle Correll (deceased). He was a longtime member and a past Master of the Ocean View Lodge #408 F&AM. Mavern was a caring father, grand and great-grandfather who loved his family.
He is survived by his sons, Michael B. Griffin (LaNita) of White Oak, Georgia, and Mark V. Griffin (Vickie) of Silver Creek, Mississippi; brother, Velious Pope of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Evelyn Crews of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kitty Roberts (Carlton) of Marianna, Florida; grandchildren, Mike Griffin, Emily Shullar, Mary Lawrence, Josh Griffin and Brittany Mullins; and eight great-grandchildren, as well: Victoria, Dylan, Alana, Georgia, James, Zoey, Liam and Ripken Paul Mullins, just born.
Memorial services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home. Pastor Sam Bennett officiated and Masonic Rites were observed at the service. The family visited with friends one hour prior to service time from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in honor of Mr. Mavern Griffin.
