Weather service confirms EF2 tornado in Lawrence County
The National Weather Service in Jackson confirmed an EF2 tornado tracked from north of Silver Creek in Lawrence County through northern Jefferson Davis County Monday.
Estimated max winds of the tornado were 130 mph. The path length was 10.9 miles and it had an estimated maximum width of 600 yards. NWS survey crews inspected the damage Wednesday.
Lawrence County Emergency Manager Tony Norwood said the tornado downed trees and damaged property on Daughdrill Road.
“We come out pretty good,” Norwood said. “I’ve gotten reports of two homes with damage. They’re fully insured. I’ve got three chicken homes with major damage. All of my damage that has been reported is just north of Silver Creek.”
