Driver killed in one-vehicle crash on I-55 in Lincoln County
A one-vehicle crash on I-55 that claimed the life of the driver early Sunday morning remains under investigation by Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Ricky Alford said a male, who did not appear to be a resident of Lincoln County, was pronounced dead at the scene near exit 24, the Lake Dixie Springs/Johnston Station exit.
Alford said the man was driving a Nissan Titan northbound about 12:55 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle left the road toward the median. The vehicle struck a tree and burst into flames, he said.
No one else was in the vehicle.
King’s Daughters Medical Center Ambulance personnel arrived on scene and called for a coroner, he said.
The victim’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.
