Griffey named general manager of The Daily Leader
Jan Griffey has been named general manager of the Brookhaven Daily Leader, DailyLeader.com and Brookhaven Magazine.
Griffey, 58, is a Natchez native. She has spent her entire career working for community newspapers, beginning when she worked as an intern at The Natchez Democrat during college.
She returned to The Natchez Democrat in May 2019 as its general manager and will continue in that role.
Before that, Griffey was general manager of The Vicksburg Post, and has worked at newspapers in Ohio, Michigan and Alabama.
“I am excited about my role in Brookhaven and look forward to getting to know and becoming involved with this community,” Griffey said. “I am familiar with Brookhaven because I spent my sophomore year in college at Co-Lin in Wesson. Brookhaven was a breath of fresh air for a girl living in a dormitory in Wesson.”
She is a 1980 graduate of South Natchez-Adams High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette.
“Brookhaven’s robust economic development success and our vibrant downtown are the envy of many. The accomplishments here occurred because leaders from all avenues worked together for the greater good of this community,” Griffey said. “My job will be to make sure our newspaper — your newspaper — accurately and fairly informs readers of the happenings here in government, education and business, as well as tells the unique stories among us. As your newspaper, the success of Brookhaven is our success and we will be this community’s most passionate advocate.”
