BHS alum Nations earns POW honor

William Carey sophomore pitcher Haley Nations has been named Southern Sports Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Nations had a 2-1 week against opponents that were either ranked or receiving votes in the national poll. She allowed no earned runs and six hits in 18.1 innings of work. Nations struck out 26 on the week. Against No. 14 Truett-McConnell she tossed five innings of shutout ball while giving up three hits and striking out eight. She also struck out 10 against Lawrence Tech and didn’t surrender a hit in 6.1 innings of action. The daughter of Neely and Joel Nations — she was SSAC freshman of the year last season. WCU (6-3) next plays in Hattiesburg on March 13 against Faulkner University.
