Brookhaven Alderwoman-at-Large Karen Sullivan and Ward 6 Alderwoman Shelley Harrigill read Tuesday at Kids R Us Learning Center for their Read Across America weeklong celebration. Sullivan picked “Green Eggs and Ham” by Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, because of the dialogue in the book. Sullivan played “Sam I Am” and tried to convince Harrigill’s character to eat green eggs and ham. The children and staff are enjoying a variety of events this week to celebrate the noted author’s birthday. Before the story, the children at the learning center had a breakfast of green eggs and ham. Sullivan, a retired educator, said she has participated in Read Across America events for several years as a way to support early childhood education.
