On May 6, 1966, Geraldine married the love of her life Darrel G. Smith.

They were married for almost 47 years until his death in 2013.

Geraldine had a special connection with people of all ages and touched their lives. She worked with children when she drove a bus for the Lincoln County School District.  Her greatest gift, however, was working with the elderly..  She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and loved caring for them for many years in area nursing homes.

Geraldine had a gift for making people laugh and she was also gifted in writing poetry.  She would share her feelings and express her love through her passion of writing poems.

Preceding Geraldine in death other than her husband are her parents, Conaway and Louise Carlisle, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Vern Kingsmill, and nieces Mary Leanne and Wendy Carol Kingsmill.

Geraldine is survived by her sisters Lavenia Townsend (David) of Baytown, TX and Crickett Carlisle (Jimmie) of Brookhaven.  Geraldine is also survived by her five beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own and gave them special names. Davida “My Baby” Rosser (Beau) James “Fleabop” Kingsmilll (Deborah) Kevin “Little Man” Townsend (Diane), Beth “Screwworm” Schlauch (Wes) and Anita “Heathcliff” Boyd (Chris).  She is also survived by an aunt, Nonerle Hanshew of Sontag, special cousin and friend Mary Lane Posey (Junior).

She is survived by her “little dog” Precious.  She is also by survived numerous great nieces and nephews, one great-great niece, many cousins, and too many friends to count.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to offset her funeral and burial costs. Any remaining funds will be designated to the ministries of Fair River Baptist Church.  Donations can be made out and mailed to Davida Rosser at 214 Prairie St. Highlands, TX 77562. Please designate Geraldine Smith Memorial on the memo line. We appreciate your gifts, but most importantly we treasure your prayers during this time.

A memorial service will be planned and held at a later date.
