MHP wants motorists to ‘Drive Right’ this summer

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is asking motorists to have a “Drive Right” mentality this summer, but especially across the Independence Day holiday weekend.

MHP will begin the 2020 Fourth of July Holiday Enforcement Period on Friday at 12:01 a.m., to conclude Sunday at midnight. All available troopers will be out in saturation patrols and checkpoints to promote traffic safety.

MHP’s July traffic safety initiative is “Drive Right Mississippi.” The focus of the initiative is on the left hand lane law — which prohibits continued driving in the left lane of four-lane highways and interstates except to pass or make a left-hand turn — as well as distracted and impaired driving, speeding and seatbelt usage.
