Brookhaven Animal Rescue League will be raising funds through multiple events in the coming weeks — an online auction, a barbecue plate lunch, a sales sponsorship day and a special adoption event.
Barks & Bids online auction
The inaugural Barks & Bids online auction will be Oct. 11-18. Signup for the event is online at www.charityauctionstoday.com/auctions/barlsbarksandbids-14566.
“Due to COVID, we aren’t able to hold our large fundraiser, the Celebrity Dinner,” said BARL President Rusty Adcock. “We’re taking the auction online and are hoping it will have great success as we raise money for the homeless animals. We really need to community to get behind this new fundraiser. This online auction will also give people all over the country the option to bid on the shippable items.”
Auction items will be available for viewing Oct. 7. Items will be available for pick up at Lincoln Civic Center Oct. 19-20, with some items available for shipping.
Items are being collected by BARL volunteers for the auction and businesses are asked to sign up as sponsors by contacting Julie Montalvo at 601-757-1057 or Gail Garbo at 601-757-3211, or by emailing info@barl.net.
Plate lunches and spirits sales
People wishing to support the animal rescue group can also contribute by buying lunch or alcoholic beverages.
A barbecue plate lunch fundraiser will be Oct. 20 with pickup in the Westbrook Cinema 4 parking lot. Magnolia Blues will prepare the food for the $10 plates, which can also be purchased at BeClean Cleaners and Bank of Franklin in Brookhaven.
Plates can be delivered to businesses in town, with purchase of at least five plates.
Sales on Oct. 2 from Brookway Wine and Spirits will also benefit BARL. Twenty percent of each sale will be donated.
Empty the Shelters event
Potential pet adopters will have a special opportunity Oct. 1-4 to adopt a BARL animal at a reduced rate.
Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” adoption program sponsors reduced fees for 150 shelters across 33 states, including BARL. For these four days, select dogs and cats may be adopted for a fee of $25 each. Animals will be current on age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neutering and micro-chipping.
