COVID Update: MSDH reports 79 new deaths Tuesday

Seventy-nine COVID-19 related deaths were reported Tuesday morning by the Mississippi State Department of Health, the highest one-day death total for the virus in the state.

Fifty-six deaths occurred Dec. 12-21 and 23 occurred Nov. 20-Dec. 16. MSDH also reported 2,191 new positive test results and 234 current outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

Lincoln County reported 18 new cases for a total of 2,362 — 70 new positive results within four days.

Lincoln County now has had 2,344 positive cases of the virus and 74 deaths. Fifty-two new cases have been reported since Friday morning.

MSDH has recorded 140,913 confirmed cases and 3,683 confirmed deaths. There have been 56,778 probable cases and 807 probable deaths from COVID. The state presumes 154,669 of the total 195,500 cases have recovered as of Sunday night.

Testing

Testing is available in Brookhaven at King’s Daughters Medical Center. The COVID screening site is located behind the Emergency Room and will be open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 601-835-9455 to make an appointment.

Testing is also available for those without health insurance, on Mondays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. outside the Lincoln County Health Department, 1212 Northpark Lane NE, Brookhaven. Interested persons should call 601-496-7200 before arriving. Testing is also available this week Wednesday-Friday.
