Brian Smith of Brookhaven was recently named Outstanding Logger of the Year for 2020 by the Mississippi Forestry Association.
Smith was presented with a handmade wooden log truck, a monogrammed jacket and other prizes donated by vendors, clients and equipment dealers.
“Having been in the business for such a length of time, Brian has become very skilled and knowledgeable in his occupation. However, the greatest asset of his operation is not just the excellent job he performs, but primarily his reputation with local mills for his creativity in the business and his ability to produce wood safely and effectively,” said Brett Rushing and Sam Ballard, who nominated Smith. “Of course, his crew, made up of dedicated employees, shows pride in their work. Their equipment is always clean, well-serviced, and very presentable to the public.”
Smith founded Brian Smith Logging in 2013 and has 14 full-time employees and two contract truck drivers. His father still helps with the business every day, and his wife, Anna, also handles the bookkeeping for the business.
