Severe weather expected today across the area

Severe storms are possible Wednesday through the night in Lincoln County and across much of South Mississippi.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has forecast isolated severe storms, damaging wind gusts and hail up to quarter size.

An elevated threat of flash flooding exists for the southern half of the county, stretching west into Louisiana and east across the state, with 2-3 inches of rain in short duration possible. Some roads may become flooded.

A limited threat exists for the remainder of Lincoln County, with 1-2 inches of rain in short duration possible and possible localized flash flooding, particularly in low lying and urban areas.

The chance of rain is 100% in the morning hours, tapering to 60% in the afternoon.

Brookhaven has an expected high of 72 degrees and a low of 54.
