The artwork of a local student will soon be on display in the nation’s Capitol.

High school students have until April 23 to submit entries to the 2001 Congressional Art Competition.

The annual art contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District and across the nation’s 435 congressional districts. District 3 is represented by Congressman Michael Guest.

High school students in the district — which includes Lincoln, Lawrence, Franklin, Walthall, Pike and Amite counties in its total 14 counties plus portions of three others — can submit a piece of artwork to be presented to a panel of judges. The winning submission will be displayed in the United States Capitol until the 2022 winner is selected.

Deadline is noon, April 23.

Artwork can be up to 26×26 inches and 4 inches deep, weighing no more than 15 pounds. Art can be in any of the following media — painting, drawing, collage, print, mixed media, computer-generated or photography. All entries must be original in concept, design and execution, and the original artwork must be submitted.
