COVID update: 500 new cases, 8 more deaths statewide

The state reported 500 new cases of COVID-19 Monday and eight new deaths.
Mississippi has now had 312,400 positive cases of the coronavirus and 7,207 fatalities related.
Lincoln County’s case number has risen by 14 over the past week to 3,937, though the county’s death total remains at 110.
For the counties bordering Lincoln County:
- Amite County has increased by eight cases and one death in the past seven days, with totals of 1,234 cases and 42 deaths.
- Copiah County added four positive test results to rise to 2,958 cases and 65 deaths.
- Franklin County had two additional cases, now totaling 831 cases and 23 deaths.
- Jefferson County reported four new cases, totaling 654 cases and 28 deaths.
- Lawrence County had three new cases, and is now at 1,282 cases and 23 deaths.
- Pike County had 28 new cases — 3,288 cases and 105 deaths.
- Walthall County reported eight new cases and one additional death, bringing its total to 1,337 cases and 45 deaths.
Counties with the greatest number of positive cases over the course of the pandemic are DeSoto (21,410 cases, 256 deaths — 139 new cases and no new deaths) and Hinds (20,251 cases — 80 new — and 414 deaths, which is one more than one week ago).
Counties with the least number of positive cases are Issaquena (unchanged at 168 cases, six deaths) and Sharkey (502 cases — one new over the week — and 17 deaths). Though Quitman County has had more cases, with 796, it has only recorded 16 deaths to date.
On Sunday, 167 patients were hospitalized statewide with confirmed COVID-19 infections and 33 were hospitalized with suspected infections. Fifty-eight patients were in intensive care units and 24 were on ventilators.
MSDH presumes 300,323 previously infected individuals have recovered from the coronavirus as of April 26.
