COVID update: Lincoln County adds 1 death

Over the weekend, one new death was added to Lincoln County’s COVID-19 death toll, bringing that number to 132. The county has reported 5,310 total cases, adding an average of 6.5 cases per day across the past week.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,773 new coronavirus cases Monday and 484,675 total cases in the state — only 3% of cases were fully vaccinated. Fifty-five new deaths were reported — including one additional in Copiah County, one in Lawrence and two in Pike — to bring the total to 9,480, of which only 13% were fully vaccinated.
King’s Daughters Medical Center reported five patients in its intensive care unit as of 10:30 a.m. Monday, all COVID-positive, with four on ventilators. Ten patients were hospitalized with COVID, nine of whom were unvaccinated.
With 27 patients admitted at KDMC, the hospital is at 135% of its pre-pandemic daily average.
The numbers are down at KDMC from Friday, when 44 patients were hospitalized, with six COVID-positive patients on ventilators in the ICU.
In the 24 hours prior to Monday’s report, 57 patients had been seen in the emergency room, 20 COVID-related. KDMC administered 587 monoclonal antibodies across the month of August, and had administered 146 Sept. 1-27.
