New balcony, festivities coming to downtown Brookhaven

A new balcony and Christmas display will be unveiled in downtown Brookhaven prior to Thursday’s Christmas parade.

The balcony is under construction at Hurst Review, 127 South Railroad Ave., and is expected to be completed prior to the parade. From atop the new balcony Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m., DJ Trazy Griffin of Hattiesburg will oversee music to put everyone in a festive mood. Hot chocolate will be served to parade-goers on the sidewalk below.

“Christmas is a very special time for us at Hurst Review,” said owner Marlene Cupit. “We work hard all year long educating graduate students so they will be safe practicing, compassionate nurses.”

Cupit said she and her employees want to provide a different source of entertainment for the community as the year winds down.

“In the past, we have enjoyed creating floats for the annual parade,” CEO Roberto Bonilla said. “But this year we wanted to do something different by adding excitement to the season with a few pre-parade activities.”

The two massive display windows at the front of Hurst Review will be unveiled at 5:45 p.m.

“The windows are in keeping with the parade theme of ‘Light Up the Night,’” said Bonilla. “I hope everyone will enjoy the display and music until the parade officially begins around 6:15 p.m.”

The outside of the Hurst building has been undergoing renovations for more than a year, beginning with window restorations, new paint, and a new concrete sidewalk. The balcony is being fabricated locally and installed by Imagine Ironworks/B&O Machine & Welding, owned by James Minter of Brookhaven.

“The railing will be made of steel tubing,” said Minter. “If you look closely at the curved design of the panels you will see a hidden ‘H’ in the design. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.”

Hurst Review Services Inc. provides reviews to graduate nurses seeking to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in the United States and Canada. Since 1988, Cupit and her nationally recognized company have helped hundreds of thousands of nurses pass their NCLEX.
