COVID-19 update: 408 new cases statewide, 12 new in Lincoln County

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 408 new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus Tuesday and nine new related deaths.

The state has now recorded 520,259 total cases and 10,340 deaths. The new deaths included one in Franklin County, which has now reported 1,278 cases and 31 deaths.

Lincoln County is steadily approaching 5,600 cases, with 12 new positive test results reported. The county has now had 5,588 positive results for the virus. The county’s death toll of 136 has remained steady for several weeks, however.

On Tuesday, King’s Daughters Medical Center reported one COVID-positive patient hospitalized. That patient was unvaccinated, but is not in intensive care and is not on a ventilator.

KDMC currently has 32 patients, more than 150 percent of its average pre-pandemic rate of 20 patients.

Of 74 visits to the hospital’s emergency room over the previous 24 hours, 34 were COVID-related. KDMC has administered 29 monoclonal antibodies to date in December, compared to 40 in November.
