Several Mississippi Department of Transportation projects are moving forward in Southwest Mississippi.

“All of these projects are geared towards one main goal — improving driver safety. Safety remains MDOT’s top priority,” said Southern Transportation District Commissioner Tom King.

A project to overlay the Monticello Bypass — Hwy. 84 from Old Hwy. 27 east to State Route 184 — is underway in Lawrence County. Undersealing of the bridges is the current project. The $2.6 million project was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen Inc., of Brookhaven, and is anticipated to be completed in early summer.

Dickerson & Bowen was also awarded a lottery-funded project in the district — a $1 million project in Walthall County. The project will overlay State Route 583 from Hwy. 98 to Sim Thornhill Road, State Route 27 from High School Drive to State Route 48, and State Route 585 from SR 22 north one mile.

Six other projects are in various stages of completion in Adams, Wilkinson, Simpson and Marion counties.
