Updated: County chooses April for spring cleanup

The calendar says its coming up on spring, which means it’s time to gather debris and spiffy up the place.

This year, your time to bring the fruits of your labor to be disposed of depends on what district you live in. In a change from the past, where everyone came to one particular place, this year each district will have its own day to drop off refuse from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays in April.

The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors chose the month of April to invite county residents to discard yard debris at the Brookhaven Transfer Station at 463 County Farm Lane NE as follows:

District 1 – April 2

District 2 – April 9

District 3 – April 16

District 4 – April 23

District 5 – April 30

Things permitted include plastic items, furniture, recliners, couches, coolers, clothing and shoes, vacuums, carpet and porcelain and cermamics.

Another day and time will be chosen to discard chemicals, tires and other types of debris. No metal, tree limbs, leaves or grass cuttings will be accepted.

No commercial rubbish, construction materials, tires, paint, oil, fuels or chemicals, fluorescent bulbs or other hazardous waste will be accepted. No stoves, appliances, lawn mowers, basketball goals, tin or shingles permitted.

Officials wanted to make clear that these types of items will not be accepted during debris clean up days and that the gates will be patrolled to ensure no one decides to leave anything out front. No scavenging will be permitted.
