Mississippi coronavirus cases at a two-year low

New positive cases of COVID-19 coronavirus have continued to fall across the state as Mississippi State Department of Health officials reported 132 new cases from Thursday to Sunday.
Five new deaths were also reported. The state has now recorded 794,225 positive cases of the virus and 12,383 deaths.
As of Monday, 51 percent of Mississippi’s population has been fully vaccinated, remaining below the national average of 65 percent.
The most recent seven-day, daily average of cases dropped to 84 — the lowest average since March 29, 2020, just weeks after the first cases were reported in Mississippi. The 14-day average dropped to 91, the lowest since April 2020.
As of Friday — the most recent reported data available — Lincoln County has reported 8,301 cases and 156 related deaths.
